This is the last post of the entire year. I wanted to thank you all for reading along, contributing, helping me out and generally making SFS not only worthwhile but a pleasure to run. Thank you for all of your support and I genuinely hope that I have given you useful and interesting content to read. This post is sorta like a Christmas card I suppose, to each and every one of you. The history of the Christmas card is actually quite interesting:
Sir Henry Cole (who was a civil servant, an inventor and also a pretty shrewd businessman) commissioned John Callcott Horsley to design a card for him in 1843. The custom was to send a letter to each person wishing them all the best and so on. He had a large network to cater for and he figured that a card with a nice design and a pre-printed message would be the most efficient way to do this. Apparently the picture was very controversial: a family with a small child drinking wine together. The idea took off and to this day we still send out these cards.
